Type K (Chromel-Alumel)
Temperature Range: 100°C to 1,260°C
Key Features:
- One of the most common and cost-effective thermocouples.
- Suitable for oxidizing and neutral atmospheres, but not for reducing or sulfurous environments.
- Good accuracy and wide temperature range make it ideal for general-purpose applications.
Applications:
- Sealed Quench Furnaces
- Mesh Belt Furnaces
- Pusher Furnaces etc
Type N (Nicrosil-Nisil)
Temperature Range: 100°C to 1,260°C
Key Features:
- Excellent resistance to oxidation and stability in high-temperature environments.
- Better performance than Type K in harsh industrial settings.
Applications:
- Aerospace aluminium solutionising and annealing.
Advantages of Thermocouples:
Temperature Measurement and Control:
- Thermocouples accurately measure the temperature within the furnace chamber, ensuring that the set point temperature is maintained throughout the heating process.
- This precise control is critical for achieving the desired microstructure and properties in the treated material.
Process Monitoring and Optimization:
- By continuously monitoring the temperature, thermocouples help optimize the heating rates, leading to improved process efficiency and reduced energy consumption.
- They also aid in identifying any deviations from the desired temperature profile, allowing for timely adjustments.
Quality Control:
- Accurate temperature measurement ensures that the treated materials meet the required specifications, enhancing product quality and consistency.
- Thermocouples play a vital role in maintaining strict quality control standards.
